Running a small business can be both exciting and challenging. Having the right tools can make a huge difference in efficiency and creativity. Here are my favorite must-have supplies that every craft-based small business owner should consider!
1. Rollo Thermal Printer
If you’re looking for a reliable and efficient way to handle shipping labels, the Rollo Thermal Printer is a game changer. This was the first purchase I made after my small business started making money, and it was a huge time saver. I use mine to not only print shipping labels, but also decorative label packaging on some of my party favor kits. The print quality doesn't compare to my inkjet or laser though, so I use it for a minimal amount of decorative labels. And the best part - no ink!
2. Laser Printer
While the Rollo is fantastic for shipping labels, a laser printer is essential for high-quality, crisp and efficient printing. Laser printers are known for their speed and efficiency, making them perfect for printing everything from packaging slips to crisp labels, to wedding invitations. This printer also handles bulk printing better than inkjet printers, which can save you valuable time during busy periods! I also have an inkjet, so read about what I use it for below!
3. Inkjet Printer
An inkjet printer is another important tool for printing on very heavy cardstock. If your business involves art prints or photographs, an inkjet printer is a great choice. Look for one with good color accuracy and a variety of paper handling options to suit your needs.
4. Paper Cutters (I have 3!)
You might wonder why three paper cutters are necessary, but having multiple options can streamline your workflow. I have a large guillotine cutter for my large 20" paper pieces, a smaller cutter for quick cuts that don't need to be perfect, and one that is best for straight lines. Whether you need to make precise cuts for packaging, craft projects, or marketing materials, having the right tool on hand can save you time and frustration! Read more about my paper cutters here!
5. Cricut Machines
For businesses that thrive on creativity—like crafts, custom apparel, or personalized gifts—a Cricut machine is a must. These versatile cutting machines can handle various materials, from vinyl to cardstock, allowing you to create intricate designs effortlessly. I run all five of my machines daily. The majority of my business uses cardstock, and I have found that both the Explore and Maker work great!
6. Bead and Tassel Storage
If your business involves crafting jewelry or home decor, proper organization is key. Investing in open wall storage solutions will help keep your materials tidy and accessible. Look for clear containers with adjustable compartments to easily manage different sizes and colors. This system has really made my business more efficient and CLEAN!
7. Suncatcher Wall Storage System
Finally, a wall storage system like this can be a great option to utelize storage space. I used to have all my overflow suncatchers thrown into a drawer...they were a mess! This system has freed up other space, and makes packaging quicker and easier.
Conclusion
Equipping your small business with the right supplies can enhance productivity and creativity. From printers to storage solutions, each of these tools plays a vital role in running a successful operation. By investing in these must-haves, you’ll set yourself up for success and be ready to tackle any challenge that comes your way. Happy crafting and printing!
